Karcher’s BRS 40/1000 scrubber features two counter-rotating high-speed roller brushes or pads reducing handle torque for increased operator ease and comfort. Operate in a side-to-side or push-pull motion depending on operator preference or as the application demands. Its low profile allows cleaning in tight areas where many scrubbers can’t go, including right up to the edge of the wall or baseboard with no splashing, mess or cleanup.
The BRS 40/1000 C combines the advantages of single-disc machines with those of roller brush units. A special feature of the machine, which is equipped with two contra-rotating roller brushes, is a handle which rotates in several steps up to 90 degrees on both sides and can be locked in position.
In the normal position, the machine is swung to the right and left like a single-disc machine and achieves a high area performance. Locking the handle in the 90-degree position allows the operator to work in precise lanes, forwards and backwards as with a standard scrubber drier. This enables effective cleaning of large areas and cleaning to be performed close to walls and other fixed obstacles.
In terms of cleaning performance, the BRS 40/1000 C is just as good as its bigger brothers. Its contra-rotating roller brushes produce a very high maximum contact pressure of 230 g/cm2. Even heavily structured surfaces, such as studded rubber floors and non-slip tiles, present no problems. Its low-profile construction means that it can also reach floor areas underneath radiators, cupboards and shelves (min. 135 mm); on the flanks only (100 mm).
The robust, smooth-running induction motor has a high power output of 2100 W. The motor bracket is made of solid aluminium, the base plate of stainless steel. No tools are required for carbon brush replacement. Two sturdy rollers guarantee easy manoeuvrability. The handle folds down so that the unit can be stowed in a minimum of space or transported in a passenger car.

The very rugged and competitively priced unit comes with a number of innovative design features which offer the operator real benefits in handling and convenience. For example, the self-supporting chassis, fresh water and dirty water tank as well as the mounting for the fan motor and batteries are a single polyethylene component produced in a rotational moulding process. Apart from saving space – the fresh water tank is integrated in the housing wall – this construction uses fewer parts and is therefore more reliable.
An unusual technical solution was found for raising and lowering the brush head and suction beam. The unit is tilted back slightly to relieve the load on the brushes. After the work break, the unit is simply pushed forwards and this causes the brush head to be lowered to the floor. Charger on-board, the batteries (with exhaustive discharge protection) can be recharged anywhere. It is only necessary to connect the machine to a normal power outlet. The batteries switch over automatically to the charge mode. The control panel has been greatly simplified. It contains only the suction fan and brush motor switches and the battery condition indicator. This almost excludes the risk of operator errors.

Almost every user will find a solution to suit his specific cleaning task: The choice of equipment includes a detergent metering system (DOSE), traction drive, sweeping attachment and FACT, a three-stage drive technology for roller brushes. Basic models are available for those who do not require a full-featured machine – with a working width of 18”, mains or battery powered.
Thanks to a higher battery capacity, the machines achieve a running time that is 40% longer (up to 2.5 hours) than their predecessors. Depending on the model, the theoretical area coverage is up to 23680 ft2/h. Fresh water and recovery tanks each have a capacity of 10.5 gal. Operation is accomplished with a single control knob with easy-to-understand symbols. A solenoid valve shuts off the water supply as soon as the machine comes to a standstill.
A new feature that is not normally found in this class of roller brush machine is a sweeping attachment that can be installed in the brush head. This saves the need for an additional operation. The brushes rotate in the same direction to assist forward drive. Maintenance can be performed quickly and simply. On all roller brush machines, solution is now fed to the front of the brush head via an easily accessible and easily cleaned distribution channel. Roller brushes can be changed in seconds without the need for tools. A transparent hose shows the fresh water level in the tank and is also used for draining the tank. A foot-operated lever enables wheels to be lowered for easy mobility between cleaning locations and to protect the brushes in the parked position. The push handle folds down to save space when transporting or parking the machine.

The newly designed B 80 W walk-behind scrubber from Karcher incorporates a number of carefully considered improvements that make it easier to use. The compact, narrow design makes the B 80 easy to maneuverable, and its tank’s asymmetrical shape gives the operator a clear view of the brush head. During cleaning the brush head, like the suction bar, is lowered automatically. The waste water tank is cleansed thoroughly by an automatic rinsing system without the operator coming into contact with the contents. With the Karcher Intelligent Key system, a different profile can be set for each user, thereby ensuring ease of use.
The B 80 W is agile and easy to maneuver in tight areas. The tank narrows toward the front, giving the operator a very good view of the brush head and enabling him or her to clean carefully to the very edge of the floor. The B 80 W’s new large color display features self-explanatory symbols that make it clear which program has been selected. As soon as the lever is activated in cleaning mode, the brush head and suction bar are lowered automatically. With the suction motor newly encapsulated, the operating noise can be reduced to as low as 61.5 dB(A), making the B 80 suitable for cleaning in noise-sensitive locations such as hospitals, hotels and educational facilities.
The brush heads are easy to remove by hand; no tools required, allowing the operator to switch cleaning heads and access to the underside for thorough cleaning. After use, the waste water tank can also be cleaned easily by means of the rinsing system incorporated in the B 80’s lid, reducing the risk of spraying the operator with dirty water. The rinsing system simply connects to a water supply and a circle of water jets in the tank lid clean the tank automatically and thoroughly.
